This was very fun 😂 More seeing it from both sides. I also learned a ton!
We Mexicans definitely have that in common with Chinese, things work very similarly at the mercado. Definitely fun and a very handy skill to have in life.
It doesn't always work though, I remember being with my sister in Florence, pretending to teach her the ways of life, and told her to let me negotiate for the painting she liked from one of the street vendors. He wouldn't give in, so I played the "Pretend to leave" card. We started walking, and walking, and he didn't say anything. I had to swallow my pride and we went back and paid full price 😂😂
That was a very entertaining insiders look at the art of bargaining in China. Much of the same psychology is certainly transportable to sales in North America.
that's what I liked about this article is that it reveals selling and buying as an act of play essentially, it's a kind of recreational and conversational sparring that is enjoyable and actually is the basis of a respectful relationship with another person
Loving all the stories, especially the detailed breakdown of the bargaining dance, and most of all, the video on the difference between dragon and "loong".
This made me chuckle.
I used to live in Hong Kong and the first thing my local colleagues told me when I landed was "Here, everything is negotiable".
I loved it.
I was consulting in Central and buying mangoes in Wan Chai: making deals in the office and at the wet market!
Hahha!!! Love the Central x Wan Chai intersection - I think that's what made HK so special - anything is possible if you negotiate

Hope you get rich too!! ;)
Haha you're so right! The world is increasingly squeezing those margins of possibility... at least we have a funny story to tell 🙃
Aiyo ~ that's why I prefer online shopping!
Hehe transactional relationship preferred outside of the neighborhood wet market

Tell me more! And why does sales get an almost immediate bad rep? We get too defensive too quickly
