On my first ever safari, a British couple in their 60s warned me about the African bug - a bug that’d make you itch to come back to the continent. 6 years and 4 trips later, I can tell you with confidence...
I love this so much! I don't have any memorable sunrises in Africa, but the most incredible night sky I've ever seen was hiking on a beach at night to get to a homestay after the tide had gone out. WOW. Unimpeded (almost) 360 views, I'd NEVER seen stars so bright...
wow where is this! It sounds amazing! Every time I go to one of those dark night reserves it's almost always a full moon or cloudy/rainy 🙈 I haven't given up though 🌌
It is!!! That beach was somewhere along the South African coastline from Durban to Capetown… sorry I can’t remember where exactly. But the whole distance is worth doing on foot because it’s so beautiful, but you could also hire a car to take you from point to point (hostel/township to next one). You get a great feel for the African heartland and the diversity in South Africa. I also spent 2 weeks at Woody Cape resort, largest sun dunes in the Southern Hemisphere and super private! One of the most magical 2 months of my life! You would absolutely get your dark nights here!
OMGGGGGGG INDEED! My favourite bush is rather mundane: Wellington Botanic Gardens. I live just two minutes away from one of the entry points. A five minute walk and I get to be in the bush with the Tuis tweeting, Kakas squawking and Piwakawakas flitting. In the depth of it you'd forget you're only five minutes from a main busy road. The rustling leaves cancels out the traffic noise. In summer, the cicadas are deafening!
The close to home kind is the best! No bush here in Tokyo lol the closest I have to home is a well manicured lawn and a rose garden lol But the doggies that illegally congregate there always lift my spirits haha

I've heard such good things about the Durban to Capetown route! Gotta plan for the next trip then lol 2 months sound magical indeed!!
The Okavango looks incredible Vicky! For me it has to be Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe.
Just looked it up. I couldn’t help myself and started day dreaming lol 😂
